Great leaders help people become more self-aware and resilient, which are important attributes to have while living in a reality that is subject to continual change and uncertainty. Great leaders also help people navigate life with confidence and other life-enhancing attitudes. These attitudes—such as openness, interest, curiosity, patience, compassion, acceptance, among others—can be cultivated through the practice of mindfulness.

Mindfulness is an open and nonjudgmental awareness of the present moment and, through practice, we can untangle unskillful attitudes and beliefs of the mind. Leaders who wish to share the concept of mindfulness with others are encouraged to establish their own personal meditation practice. Understanding what mindfulness meditation is and how it is practiced in everyday life are important topics to explore when working towards great leadership.
